About
The second season of Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World picks up the war story of swordsman Iska and the ice princess Alice. A new season was first announced in October 2021, and it was at first planned for 2023. It finally started airing in July 2024, with Silver Link working together with Studio Palette, and Yuki Inaba as the new director. The road was not smooth. In August 2024, the show stopped after its first few episodes because of production delays. It came back in spring 2025 and finished its run in June 2025. Fans waited a long time for the rest, so the full season became a kind of reunion for them.
To understand this season, it helps to know the setup. For about one hundred years, the Heavenly Empire, a nation of science and weapons, has fought the Nebulis Sovereignty, a land of magic users called witches. Iska is a gifted fighter from the Empire who once lost his high rank for freeing a captured witch. Alice is a Nebulis princess with frightening ice magic. In the first season, the two met as enemies, but they learned that both secretly wish for peace. Since then, they have grown close in a way they must hide from everyone.
This season adds a big new piece to the puzzle: Sisbell, Alice's younger sister. Sisbell has a rare power called Lamplight. It lets her see things that happened in the past in a nearby place, like replaying a recording of history. That makes her very valuable, and very much in danger. Iska once helped her escape from an Empire prison, so she trusts him. Now Iska ends up acting as her guard. This creates a messy, funny love problem. Alice does not like seeing Iska spend so much time protecting her sister, and she gets jealous, even though she would never fully admit why.
The bigger danger is not only the war between nations. Inside the Nebulis royal family, there are three main houses that compete for power, and some members make secret plans against each other. On the Empire side, there are also people with hidden goals. Iska, his 907th Unit friends Mismis, Jhin, and Nene, and Alice and her maid Rin all get pulled into a plot that is bigger than any single battle. The heroes must deal with their own feelings while also trying to stop people who want the fighting to go on.
The tone stays close to the first season. There are big magic and sword fights, plenty of teasing and light comedy, and quiet moments where Iska and Alice speak more honestly than they can in public. The new focus on Sisbell gives the story a softer and more personal side, because it shows how war affects a family, not just armies. The season also gives more time to court politics, so viewers see that peace will need trust inside each nation, not only between them.
This season works best for people who already watched the first one. It keeps the same voices, including Yuusuke Kobayashi as Iska and Sora Amamiya as Alice in the Japanese version. For fans of enemies-to-lovers romance in a fantasy war, it continues the story with more characters, more secrets, and more reasons to hope for peace.
