About
The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments is the second full season of the fantasy action anime The Seven Deadly Sins, based on the manga by Nakaba Suzuki. Like the first season, it was made by A-1 Pictures. It has 24 episodes and aired in Japan from January to June 2018. Netflix released it in many countries in October 2018. Between the first and second seasons, a short four-episode story called Signs of Holy War aired in 2016, written by Suzuki himself.
In the first season, Princess Elizabeth found the Seven Deadly Sins, a band of famous knights who had been blamed for a crime they did not commit. With their captain, Meliodas, and his talking pig, Hawk, they fought the Holy Knights who had taken over the Kingdom of Liones. In the end, the kingdom was saved, and the people of Liones could finally celebrate. For a short time, it seems like the group can rest and enjoy peace.
That peace does not last. During the earlier fight, the Great Holy Knight Hendrickson used special pieces of power to break an old seal. This act set loose the Ten Commandments. They are a group of very strong warriors from the Demon Clan, and they serve the Demon King. Each of them is a terrible threat. Many years ago, they were locked away, and now they are free and moving across Britannia.
The Ten Commandments quickly spread fear and ruin wherever they go. Even stranger, Meliodas seems to know who they are, and they seem to know him too. This strange link raises many new questions about his past, and about how much his friends really know about him. The Sins realize that their old enemies were small compared to this new danger. They must find a way to grow stronger and stop the demons before the whole land falls into war and terror.
The cast from the first season returns, including Elizabeth, Meliodas, Hawk, and the other members of the Sins, such as Diane, Ban, and King. This season adds many new faces and shows more of the old history of Britannia, including the long-ago struggle between different clans. The story becomes bigger and more serious, but it still keeps the light jokes and the warm, rowdy scenes at the traveling bar.
The music includes the opening song "Howling" by FLOW x GRANRODEO and later the opening "Ame ga Furu kara Niji ga Deru" by Sky Peace. Fans of the first season will find bigger battles, deeper mysteries, and a much stronger enemy. This season is a key turning point for the series, because it moves the story from a fight for one kingdom to a fight for the fate of the whole world. It is followed by Imperial Wrath of the Gods.
