About
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War? is the second season of the popular romantic comedy, made again by A-1 Pictures and directed by Shinichi Omata. Note the question mark in the title, which fans use to tell the seasons apart. It has 12 episodes. It was shown first at Anime Festival Sydney in March 2020, then aired in Japan from April 11 to June 27, 2020. Like the first season, it adapts the manga by Aka Akasaka.
The basic idea stays the same. Kaguya Shinomiya, the rich and elegant vice president of Shuchiin Academy's student council, and Miyuki Shirogane, the hard-working council president, have feelings for each other. Both are too proud to say it. Each thinks that the one who confesses first is the loser, so they keep trying to trick the other into saying it first. This season, though, the two start to be a little more honest. Their plans are still silly and complicated, but there are more soft and sweet moments, and it is easier to see how much they care.
The story now moves into the autumn of the school year. Shirogane's birthday is coming, and Kaguya worries a lot about what gift to give and how to give it without looking like she is in love. There is also a bigger problem. The current council will soon end its term, and a new council must be chosen. Since Kaguya and Shirogane are in different classes, the council room is the only place where they spend time together every day. If the council ends, so do those days.
This season adds an important new character, Miko Iino. She is a first-year student who loves rules, wants everyone to behave well, and is very serious about justice. She often clashes with others, especially with Yu Ishigami. Ishigami, the gloomy treasurer, gets much more attention this time. In a run of episodes called "Yu Ishigami Closes His Eyes," we learn about his past in middle school and why other students think badly of him. These episodes are more emotional than most of the show and helped many viewers see him in a new way.
Chika Fujiwara, the playful secretary, is still a source of chaos and loves to turn any quiet moment into a game. Shirogane's younger sister Kei also appears more often.
The humor is fast and loud, with big faces, wild music cues, and a dramatic narrator who treats each small school moment like a battle. But season two also balances jokes with real feelings, such as loneliness, shame, and the fear of being misunderstood. Many fans think this is where the show becomes more than a gag comedy. The opening song is "Daddy! Daddy! Do!" by Masayuki Suzuki featuring Airi Suzuki. The story continues in the third season, Ultra Romantic.
