Yuuri Briar

Yuri Briar tells most people that he is just a mid-level official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In truth, he is a dedicated officer in the State Security Service, Ostania's secret police, and he hides that second job from almost everyone, including his own sister.

His sister, Yor Forger, raised him after their mother died when he was still very young, and that loss left Yuri deeply attached to her, almost like a child who never stopped needing his mother's approval. He works himself to exhaustion trying to prove himself, drinks more than he should, and will not hesitate to use force against anyone he considers a criminal, even though he can also be surprisingly caring underneath his harsh edge.

Because he loves Yor so much, Yuri is fiercely protective of her and deeply suspicious of her new husband, Loid Forger, along with Loid's adopted daughter, Anya. He has no idea that Yor is secretly a professional killer, just as she has no idea what he really does for a living, so each sibling spends much of the story unknowingly guarding the other's secret. His colleague Chadwick Curtis treats him like a friend and tries to look out for him, giving Yuri at least one person at work who sees past his temper to the loyalty underneath.
