Reno Ichikawa

Reno Ichikawa meets Kafka Hibino while both are working for a company that cleans up the wreckage kaiju attacks leave behind. Still young and eager, Reno dreams of joining the Defense Force and becomes the spark that reminds the much older, discouraged Kafka not to give up on that same dream.

When Reno discovers that Kafka has secretly gained the power to turn into a kaiju, he does not turn away from his friend in fear. Instead, he helps Kafka hide the truth and supports him as they both work to join the Defense Force together, passing the entrance exam side by side and landing in the Third Division as fellow recruits.

As the story continues, Reno grows from a nervous trainee into a more capable fighter, eventually earning a weapon of his own and taking on more dangerous missions. After a devastating kaiju attack destroys their original base, Reno is transferred to a new division, but his loyalty to Kafka and the friends he made in the Third Division never wavers, and he continues to fight alongside them whenever it matters most.
