Mina Ashiro

Mina Ashiro and Kafka Hibino grew up together as childhood friends until a devastating kaiju attack on their hometown changed both their lives. In the aftermath, the two made a promise to join the Defense Force together and fight back against the monsters that had taken so much from them.

Only Mina keeps that promise right away, rising quickly through the ranks to become captain of the Third Division and one of the Defense Force's most gifted marksmen. Her path and Kafka's cross again years later, though their reunion is complicated: Mina does not know that the ordinary man she once knew has secretly gained the power to transform into a kaiju, and she is one of the first people to confront him once that secret comes out.

Despite the shock of learning the truth, Mina's bond with Kafka runs deeper than her duty as an officer. When a kaiju later targets her specifically, trying to steal her strength, it is Kafka who fights at her side to bring her safely through it, echoing the promise the two made as children and proving that their old friendship still matters more than anything that has changed between them.
