About
Kaiju No. 8: Kanketsu-hen is the closing chapter of the Kaiju No. 8 anime. "Kanketsu-hen" is Japanese for "conclusion arc." It comes after the second season, which aired from July to September 2025. The final part was first announced at the Jump Festa 2026 event in December 2025, with a teaser trailer and a key image. Production I.G is animating it again. Studio Khara, known for Evangelion, returns to design the monsters. Later news from Anime News Network said this conclusion arc will be a film, opening in theaters in 2027.
The anime adapts the manga by Naoya Matsumoto. It ran on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ app from July 2020 until July 2025. The full story is 129 chapters long, collected in 16 books. Since the manga is already finished, this last anime part can take the story all the way to its ending.
Here is the basic setup for new viewers. The story takes place in a Japan that is hit by kaiju more often than any other country. A kaiju is a giant monster, like Godzilla. A special army, the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force, protects the public. Its soldiers fight with powered suits made from the bodies of dead monsters. The hero, Kafka Hibino, is a 32-year-old man. He used to clean up monster remains for a living. A strange creature merged with him and gave him the power to turn into a strong, human-shaped monster. The army named that monster Kaiju No. 8. Kafka now serves in the Defense Force and uses this power to protect people, even though many still fear him.
The main cast is expected to come back for the ending. Mina Ashiro is Kafka's childhood friend and the captain of the Third Division. Long ago, the two promised to fight monsters side by side. Kikoru Shinomiya is a young, very talented fighter. Reno Ichikawa is Kafka's old coworker who joined the army with him. Gen Narumi is the strong but childish captain of the First Division. Soshiro Hoshina is the vice-captain who trained Kafka. At the end of season two, the clever monster Kaiju No. 9 was still a serious danger. This final part picks up the story from there.
The series is loved for big monster battles, a funny and kind lead, and a story about chasing a dream even when you are no longer young. The manga had more than 20 million copies in print by 2026. It also won the Next Manga Award in 2021. Before this ending arrives, fans also got a short side story: a four-episode original anime about Gen Narumi's everyday life, which began on September 5, 2026. Anyone new should watch the first two seasons before this final part.
