Kaiju No. 8 will end on the big screen: a 2027 film, The Final Mission, closes Production I.G's anime with Shigeyuki Miya directing
A super teaser visual released on October 24 confirms that the conclusion first teased at Jump Festa 2026 is a theatrical feature. Director Shigeyuki Miya and Production I.G return; the date, cast and distributor have not been revealed.
Kafka Hibino's story will not get a third TV season. The official Kaiju No. 8 anime account confirmed on Saturday, October 24, that the adaptation of Naoya Matsumoto's manga will finish with a theatrical feature opening in Japan in 2027. Anime.com and AnimeTV report the English title as Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission, while Anime Corner refers to it simply as the series' final movie; AniList lists the project as Kaijuu 8-gou: Kanketsu-hen, the "conclusion arc."
A teaser built around one monster
The announcement came with a super teaser visual. It shows an enormous kaiju covered in eyes looming over a city reduced to rubble, with a tagline that Anime.com renders as "The age of humans comes to an end." No release month, voice cast or distribution partner was attached to it.
The film was not a complete surprise. Production of a finale for the anime was first revealed during the Jump Super Stage at Jump Festa 2026 in December 2025, alongside a separate short, Narumi's Week at Work, about Gen Narumi. What October's reveal settles is the format: the ending is going to theaters.
The same hands behind the camera
Shigeyuki Miya, who directed both TV seasons, is back in the chair, and Production I.G is again animating. According to Anime Corner, Studio Khara returns for the creature designs, the role it filled on the series.
How the anime got here
The TV adaptation premiered on April 13, 2024, and its second season ran from July 2025 until September 27, 2025, bringing the broadcast total to 23 episodes. Between the two, the franchise already tested theaters once: Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon, a compilation of the first season, opened in Japan on March 28, 2025, packaged with the special Hoshina's Day Off.
The source has also reached its end. Matsumoto launched the manga on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ in July 2020 and wrapped it this July with chapter 129; the run fills 16 collected volumes, released in English by Viz Media.
For anyone new to it, the premise is simple: Kafka works for Monster Sweeper, Inc., cleaning up the remains after kaiju attacks, while his childhood friend Mina Ashiro has risen to captain the Defense Force's Third Division. When Kafka gains the ability to turn into a kaiju himself, he joins the very organization that hunts them, alongside Reno Ichikawa.
Still unannounced are a release date, a full trailer and whether the TV cast, led by Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka, returns; Fukunishi did share a message marking the series' approaching conclusion.
