SPY x FAMILY Season 3

Spy x Family began as a manga by Tatsuya Endo. It has run in Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ app since March 2019, and it has sold tens of millions of copies. Season 3 of the anime aired from October 4 to December 27, 2025, with 13 episodes. Wit Studio and CloverWorks made the show together, and Yukiko Imai took over as director for this season. If you have not seen the first two seasons, you may want to start there, because this season continues the same story.

The story happens in two rival countries, Westalis and Ostania. They are not at war, but the peace between them is shaky. Some fans think the two lands look like West and East Germany during the Cold War, but the author has never said so. A Westalian spy with the code name Twilight has a very hard job. He must get close to Donovan Desmond, an important Ostanian politician who almost never appears in public. The only way to meet him is through a school event for the parents of students.

So Twilight builds a family out of nothing. He takes the name Loid Forger and says he is a psychiatrist, which means a doctor who helps people with their minds. He adopts a young girl named Anya. Then he marries a quiet woman named Yor to complete the picture. Each of them is hiding something big. Anya can read minds. Yor is a professional assassin, which is a person paid to kill in secret. Loid knows nothing about either secret, and Yor knows nothing about his job. Later, the family also gets a large white dog named Bond. Bond can see a little bit of the future.

The joke of the series is that Anya knows everything. She hears each parent's secret thoughts, and she loves being part of a spy story. But she is a small child. She cannot explain what she knows, and she often makes things worse while trying to help. Loid is calm and sharp at work, but he is often thrown off by the small problems of raising a child. Yor can fight very well, yet she is shy and awkward in daily life. Her younger brother Yuri, who works for a secret police group, also adds trouble, because he has no idea that Loid is a spy.

Spy x Family mixes three moods. The first is comedy, with silly faces, school mix-ups and many misunderstandings. The second is action, with quick fights and spy tricks. The third is warm family life. The mix is why many critics praised the series. The adults are both very skilled and very clumsy, and the show makes you smile at both. The editor of the manga asked the author for a happier tone than his earlier, darker work, and the cheerful feel is a big part of the charm.

The main idea underneath it all is found family. Nobody in this house is related, and everyone is lying. Yet slowly they begin to care about each other in a real way. Season 3 keeps this idea close, while Loid's mission at Anya's school keeps getting harder. If you like funny stories with heart, and you enjoy a bit of secret agent excitement, this series is an easy one to enjoy.
