About
Attack on Titan Season 2 arrived almost four years after the first season ended. It aired in Japan on MBS TV from April 1 to June 17, 2017, and it has 12 episodes. Wit Studio returned to animate it. Tetsuro Araki moved to the role of chief director, and Masashi Koizuka became the director. The season adapts chapters 35 to 51 of Hajime Isayama's manga, a part of the story often called the Clash of the Titans arc. It streamed on Funimation and Crunchyroll, and Adult Swim aired the English dub.
This season picks up right where the last one stopped. Eren Yeager and his friends from the 104th Training Corps are now new members of the Survey Corps, the soldiers who go beyond the safe zones to fight the giant man-eating Titans. In the first season, Eren learned that he can turn into a Titan himself. He now uses this strange power to fight for humanity, even though it makes some people fear and distrust him. The soldiers have just come out of a costly fight with a mysterious Female Titan, and almost no one has had time to rest.
Then comes a fresh shock. Titans are spotted inside Wall Rose, the middle of the three great barriers that protect the people. No one can find a hole in the wall, which makes the danger even more frightening. A group of young soldiers, who are not wearing their full combat gear, must race through villages to warn people and find the breach. One long night at an old ruined fort called Utgard Castle becomes a desperate fight for survival.
This season gives more screen time to members of the squad who were in the background before. Connie Springer and Sasha Blouse go home to their own villages and face what the Titans have done there. Ymir, a sharp-tongued girl, and her close friend Krista Lenz become key figures, and their bond is a big emotional thread. Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover, two quiet and dependable older trainees, are also at the center of the story. Eren, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert remain the heart of the cast. Without giving anything away, the season is known for a few huge twists that change how viewers see the whole series.
The tone is tense and shorter than the first season, with less training and more nonstop action. It also digs deeper into politics, secrets, and the question of who can be trusted. The mysteries about where the Titans come from start to get some answers, but each answer opens new questions. The themes of revenge, loyalty, and the price of survival are still strong.
Hiroyuki Sawano came back to write the music. The new opening song, Shinzou wo Sasageyo! by Linked Horizon, is one of the most famous anime songs of its decade. The ending song, Yuugure no Tori, is by Shinsei Kamattechan. For fans, this season is the bridge between the shocks of the first season and the larger story that follows in Season 3.
