Spy x Family will return in 2027 with a fourth TV season and a second movie, under new director Yasuhiro Akamatsu
The Forgers are coming back on two fronts: a fourth TV season and a second theatrical film, both dated only to 2027, were announced at the Anime Extra Mission II event on November 8. Wit Studio and CloverWorks continue, while Season 3 episode director Yasuhiro Akamatsu moves into the director's chair.
Three years after Code: White and a year after its third season, Spy x Family has its next missions lined up. The production used its SPY x FAMILY ANIME EXTRA MISSION II event on Sunday, November 8, to confirm both a fourth TV season and a second theatrical film, each scheduled for 2027.
That year is as precise as it gets for now. Neither project has a month attached, and the film is still untitled, with no date or cast. What fans did get is a teaser image for the new season by Satoshi Kadowaki, showing the whole household, Bond included, out in town.
A new hand at the helm
The bigger change is behind the camera. Yasuhiro Akamatsu, who worked as an episode director on the third season, now directs Season 4, with Hiroki Shinagawa as his assistant director. Aya Takaha takes over series composition, assisted by Youko Yonaiyama.
Kadowaki, the artist behind the teaser, is also a new character designer, sharing that credit with Kazuaki Shimada. Much of the remaining crew is new too: art director Ichirou Tatsuta, color designer Satoshi Hashimoto, director of photography Akane Fushihara and editor Akari Saitou. Sound director Shouji Hata is the returning name on the list. Animation stays where it has always been, as a co-production between Wit Studio and CloverWorks.
Four years of the Forgers
The anime started in spring 2022 with a first season split into two cours, the second airing that fall, for 25 episodes in all. A 12-episode second season followed from October to December 2023, and the third season ran over the same months in 2025 (it is on our catalog page for Season 3).
In between came the franchise's first film, Spy x Family Code: White, which reached Japanese theaters in December 2023. Some 4.6 million people saw it, and it grossed more than 6 billion yen domestically.
The story itself has not changed: Loid Forger is the spy codenamed Twilight, assembling a fake family to get close to a target through an elite school. He does not know that his wife Yor is an assassin, and neither of them knows that their adopted daughter Anya can read minds. In earlier seasons Takuya Eguchi voiced Loid, Saori Hayami played Yor, Atsumi Tanezaki voiced Anya and Kenichiro Matsuda handled Bond and the narration; the announcement did not address the cast for the new projects.
Plenty of manga left
Tatsuya Endo's original manga has run on Shonen Jump+ since March 2019. Its 18th collected volume came out on November 4, and more than 42 million copies were in print by this year.
For now, the teaser image is the only look at Season 4. Dates for the series and the film, and the film's title, are still to be announced.
