MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES Season 2

The second season of MASHLE aired from January to March 2024. It comes from A-1 Pictures, the same studio as the first season, and it continues the manga by Hajime Komoto. Its subtitle is the Divine Visionary Candidate Exam arc. The season was a hit with fans. It won Best Comedy at the 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

The first season ended with a big change for the hero. Mash Burnedead is a boy with no magic who survives by using pure muscle. At Easton Magic Academy, he has been hiding that he cannot cast spells. After a hard fight, his secret is no longer secret. The people in power now know what he is, and not all of them are happy about it.

The Divine Visionaries are the top wizards of this world. They meet to decide what should happen to Mash, and many of them want him gone. The reason is simple. In this world, magic is the base of the whole social order, and a boy without magic who can still win fights is a threat to that order. Then a dark group called Innocent Zero enters the story. It breaks into the meeting and shows that it is a real danger to everyone. Mash shows that he can face this group. Even so, the Divine Visionaries do not change their minds right away.

Help comes from people Mash did not expect. Rayne Ames is a Divine Visionary who speaks up for him. Headmaster Wahlberg Baigan of the academy also takes his side. Together, they win Mash some time. His punishment is delayed until Innocent Zero is defeated. There is one rule. By the end of the year, Mash must be chosen as a Divine Visionary candidate. If he fails, the deal is over.

That sets up the main task of the season. Mash must pass a hard series of tests to prove himself. His friends are in the story too. Finn Ames, Lance Crown, Dot Barrett, and Lemon Irvine all play a part. Each of them has their own goals, and each is pushed to grow. Students from the school must compete, and the contest gets more serious with every round.

The tone stays the same as before. The series is funny, with a hero who stays calm and serious while strange things happen. But this season is also more tense. There is a clock on Mash's life, and there are real enemies, so the stakes feel higher than in the first season.

If you liked the first season, this one gives you more of the same strong action and jokes, and it moves the story forward in a clear way. The story continues in a third season, which covers the Tri-Magicathlon arc.
