Otaku Vampire's Love Bite, Julietta Suzuki's romcom about a vampire who lives for anime merch, is getting a TV anime
The Kamisama Kiss creator's Hana to Yume manga, about a shut-in vampire who moves to Japan for her favorite anime and meets a neighbor who looks just like its hero, was confirmed for TV on November 3-4. No studio, cast or air date yet.
A vampire who has not left home in 30 years, a Vampire Cross box set sent by her worried father, and a one-way move from Romania to Japan: that is the setup of Otaku Vampire's Love Bite (Oshi ni Amagami), and it is now headed for television. The TV anime was confirmed with a teaser visual and an announcement PV. VIZ Media broke the news in English on November 3, and the Japanese reveal followed on November 4.
The manga is by Julietta Suzuki, the creator of Kamisama Kiss, a shojo series that already made the jump to anime. MyAnimeList credits Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions with the announcement, and the official site pitches the new show as a romantic comedy with a bloody streak.
A vampire with a blood-pack diet
Hina is not the predatory kind. She gets by on packaged blood and leaves people alone, and her real hunger is for a fictional man: Mao, the hero of the anime Vampire Cross. Japan lets her fill her new apartment with his goods, and the teaser visual plays on exactly that, showing her grinning inside a coffin stuffed with Mao merchandise.
The complication lives next door. Kyuta Amanatsu, a college student with a prickly streak, is a dead ringer for Mao. According to the official synopsis, his blood draws vampires from all over the world, which turns Hina's plan for a quiet otaku life into something far messier.
Where the manga stands
Suzuki launched the series in 2022 in Hana to Yume, Hakusensha's shojo magazine. Ten volumes are out in Japan, the latest dated July 17, and the eleventh follows on November 20. In 2023 the series made the shortlist of the 14th An An Manga Award. In English, VIZ Media picked up the license in February 2024; its eighth volume reached shelves on July 7, and volume 9 is set for December 1.
Still to come
For now the adaptation is a title, a premise and a mood. The studio, director, staff, voice cast and broadcast window have not been announced, and the official site lists none of them yet. The announcement PV is on the ShoPro anime YouTube channel, and further news will come through the official site and the X account @OsigamiOfficial.
