Reinhard van Astrea

Reinhard van Astrea holds the title of Sword Saint, the strongest swordsman of his generation, and serves as a knight of the Royal Guard. The author of the series has described him as the single most powerful character in the whole story, yet Reinhard carries that strength with humility, treating everyone, from nobles to common thugs, with the same fairness and respect.

Reinhard follows a strict personal code: he avoids causing pain to others whenever he can, using his sword only when there is truly no other choice, even against members of the dangerous Witch Cult. His easygoing, friendly nature makes him quick to befriend people, including Subaru Natsuki, despite Subaru's jealousy over how effortlessly talented Reinhard seems to be.

Family runs deep in his story as well. His grandfather, the retired knight Wilhelm, helped shape the swordsman he became. During the contest to choose the kingdom's next ruler, Reinhard pledges himself as the sworn knight of Felt, a former thief turned candidate for the throne, protecting her with the same unwavering devotion he shows to everyone who needs his sword.
