Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3

Re:ZERO came back for a third season in fall 2024, almost four years after Season 2 ended. Studio White Fox made it again, but with a new director, Masahiro Shinohara, and a new character designer, Haruka Sagawa. The season has 16 episodes split into two parts of eight. The first part, the "Attack Arc," aired from October to November 2024. The second part, the "Counterattack Arc," ran from February to March 2025. The first episode is about 90 minutes long, and it was first shown early to fans at Anime Expo in the United States. The season covers volumes 16 to 20 of the light novels by Tappei Nagatsuki.

The story jumps ahead one year after the events in the Sanctuary. For once, Subaru Natsuki's life is calm. He has friends around him, and he spends his days training so he will be ready for the next danger. Emilia and her group are working together as they try to make her the next ruler of the Kingdom of Lugunica. This contest for the throne is called the royal selection.

Then an invitation comes. Anastasia Hoshin, one of Emilia's rivals for the throne, asks Emilia to come to a meeting in Priestella, a city known as the Watergate City. Subaru and the others go with her. In Priestella, Subaru meets old allies again, including people from other camps in the race for the throne, such as the famous knight Reinhard van Astrea. For a short time, it feels like a trip with friends. But a group of fanatics, people who believe in their cause so strongly that they will do anything for it, is in the city too. They use cruel methods, and soon Emilia and the whole city are in danger.

As always in Re:ZERO, Subaru has one secret weapon. When he dies, time goes back to an earlier point, and only he remembers what happened. In this season, he must lean on that again. But this time he is not alone. One big theme of the season is teamwork. Subaru has to bring many people together, even people who do not like each other, to fight back. Beatrice, the spirit girl from Roswaal's mansion, is one of his closest partners.

The tone is often very dark, and the season has a lot of violence, so it is best for older teens and adults. Still, there are also moments of hope, friendship, and humor, and many old faces from the earlier seasons get their time to shine.

The season was well received. It won Best Isekai Anime at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and on MyAnimeList it scores around 8.4 out of 10. Season 4 followed in April 2026, so this season is the bridge to the newest part of the story.
