Nezuko Kamado

Nezuko Kamado's story begins in tragedy. The demon Muzan Kibutsuji attacks her family one night, killing almost everyone and turning Nezuko herself into a demon. Her older brother, Tanjiro Kamado, finds her still alive and refuses to give up on her, carrying her afterward in a special wooden box strapped to his back as they travel together.

Even though she becomes a demon, Nezuko never loses her kindness. She still thinks of ordinary people as family to protect rather than food, and she survives by sleeping for long stretches instead of feeding on humans the way other demons do. When danger comes, she can grow to enormous size and fight fiercely to defend the people she cares about, despite being unable to speak.

As the story goes on, Nezuko develops a rare trait: she can withstand sunlight, something no other demon can do. That makes her incredibly valuable, and also a target. Muzan, the demon king responsible for turning her in the first place, wants to find and consume her to gain that same sunlight immunity for himself. Nezuko's bond with Tanjiro, along with their new friends Inosuke Hashibira and Zenitsu Agatsuma, becomes the emotional center of the Demon Slayer Corps' fight against Muzan and his followers.
