About
Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki 2nd STAGE is the second anime season of the romantic comedy based on Yuki Yaku's light novels. The same studio, Project No.9, and the same director, Shinsuke Yanagi, returned for it. It aired for 13 episodes from January to March 2024, about three years after the first season ended in 2021.
For new viewers, here is the idea. Fumiya Tomozaki is the best player in Japan at an online fighting game called Attack Families, but at school he used to be a lonely outsider. His classmate Aoi Hinami, who is secretly his biggest game rival, decided to coach him. She treats real life like a game and gives him small tasks to build his social skills. In season one, Tomozaki slowly changed from a silent loner into someone who can talk, joke, and make friends.
As this season begins, summer break is over and a new school term starts. Tomozaki is doing much better than before. Hinami, however, has not forgotten the big goals she set for him. She wants him to keep moving forward: to be liked by the people around him and, in time, to get a girlfriend. To her, the game is far from finished.
Then a real problem appears. Hanabi Natsubayashi, known as Tama, is a friend of Tomozaki's who always says exactly what she thinks. That honesty starts to cause trouble, and other students begin to pick on her. Tomozaki wants to help, and this time his game-style lessons have to be used for something more serious than small talk. Hinami does not seem to see the situation the way he does, which pushes Tomozaki to think for himself rather than just follow her instructions.
The good news is that Tomozaki is no longer alone. The friends he made in the first season, including the cheerful Minami Nanami (Mimimi), the smooth-talking Takahiro Mizusawa, and the quiet book lover Fuka Kikuchi, all want to support Tama. Working as a group, they try to make sure everyone can enjoy their school days.
This season leans more into feelings and relationships. Tomozaki's bond with Kikuchi grows, and a love triangle starts to take shape. The show still has plenty of light comedy, but it also looks at bigger questions: what being a good friend really means, and whether treating life like a game is always the right way to live. Fans of the first season will find the same warm tone, with a little more heart.
