Fumiya Tomozaki feels like an outsider at his own school, with almost no friends his own age. Instead of making friends, he poured all his energy into a competitive fighting game called Tackfam, where he became the top-ranked player in all of Japan under the name nanashi. To him, the game felt fair and winnable, while real life felt confusing and impossible to figure out.
Everything changes when Tomozaki discovers that his online rival in the game, known as NO NAME, is actually his classmate Aoi Hinami, one of the most popular and accomplished students at school. Aoi convinces him that real life works a lot like a game too, with its own rules and strategies that anyone can learn if they put in the effort, just like he did with Tackfam.
With Aoi as his demanding but caring coach, Tomozaki slowly starts talking to classmates, joining in activities, and stepping outside his comfort zone. Along the way he becomes close friends with lively Minami Nanami and quiet, book-loving Fuuka Kikuchi, and even starts to develop real feelings for one of them. Tomozaki's journey is about learning that being himself, not just copying a strategy, is what actually helps him connect with other people.
