Ranpo Edogawa

Ranpo Edogawa is known across the city as the world's greatest detective, a reputation he has earned by never once failing to solve a case. Outside of investigations, though, he behaves childishly, struggles with basic everyday tasks, and often needs looking after by his more responsible coworkers at the Armed Detective Agency.

The twist behind Ranpo's genius is that, unlike nearly everyone else in the story, he has no supernatural ability at all. His gift is pure deduction and observation, sharpened to a level that rivals any power. He is sensitive about this fact and dislikes admitting he has nothing extraordinary beyond his own mind, so he often leans on a pair of glasses he believes help him think, even though their real effect is mostly in his head.

Ranpo holds a special place at the Agency because its president, Yukichi Fukuzawa, originally founded the entire organization just so Ranpo would have somewhere to belong. That debt shapes Ranpo's loyalty, even as he jokes his way through most conversations. His legendary skills have also drawn the attention of a rival detective who has made it a personal mission to finally beat him.
