Joseph Joestar

Joseph Joestar is the hero of the second story arc of the long-running JoJo's Bizarre Adventure saga, known as Battle Tendency. He is the grandson of Jonathan Joestar, the hero of the first story, and he never knew his father because of what happened on Jonathan's wedding trip. After that tragedy, Joseph was raised by his grandmother Erina Pendleton and the family friend Speedwagon.

Unlike his serious, noble grandfather, Joseph is playful, boastful, and loves to trick his foes before a fight even starts. He often tries to use clever tactics and traps rather than just raw strength, which makes him stand out among the Joestar family's heroes. He learns Hamon, a fighting technique built on special breathing, and fights with a pair of swinging steel balls called clackers. Later in life, he gains a new kind of power named a Stand, a visible spirit of fighting energy, called Hermit Purple, which can show images of the past and future and stretch out like vines.

His main quest in Battle Tendency is to stop the Pillar Men, an ancient race hunting for a mask that can make them unstoppable. Decades later, he travels to Egypt to save his daughter, Holly, from a curse placed by his family's old enemy, Dio Brando. During that journey it comes out that Joseph secretly fathered a son in Japan years earlier: Jousuke Higashikata. Though older and weaker by then, Joseph remains a clever, warm-hearted mentor to the next generation of Joestars.
