Though I Am an Inept Villainess heads to the Shu clan's southern lands in its Cour 2 teaser, ahead of a January 2027 return
Doga Kobo's body-swap court drama released a teaser for its second cour, the First Royal Outing arc, on October 23. Yuichi Nakamura, Shunichi Toki and Chiaki Kobayashi join the cast; the exact premiere date is still to come.
Reirin and Keigetsu are leaving the palace. A teaser trailer posted on Friday, October 23, by the official account for Though I Am an Inept Villainess gave the first moving look at the anime's second cour, which adapts the arc known as "The First Royal Outing" (Suuguu Chouso Torikae Den) and returns in January 2027. TOHO animation's English account framed the new chapter as beginning in "the Shu Clan's Southern Lands," the territory ruled by Keigetsu's family.
The trip is a sign of how far the two leads have come. The series opened with Shu Keigetsu, jealous that Kou Reirin seemed destined to marry the crown prince of the Kingdom of Ei, stealing her body and leaving her locked away to await execution. The would-be rivals have since become friends, and the second cour sends them south together.
That journey brings three new voices, first revealed on the official site in September. Yuichi Nakamura and Shunichi Toki play Reirin's older brothers, Keikou and Keishou respectively, while Chiaki Kobayashi voices Unran, a young village chief in the south whose role grows as the story opens up. Manaka Iwami and Natsumi Kawaida continue as Reirin and Keigetsu.
The first cour premiered on July 12 and ran 11 episodes, produced at Doga Kobo under director Mitsue Yamasaki, with Yoshiko Nakamura writing the series composition and designing the characters. Outside Japan it was spread over four services: Crunchyroll carried it across North America, Britain, Ireland and Oceania plus 31 further territories; Disney+ offered it in Canada, Britain, Ireland and 28 more; Hulu had it in both America and Japan; and Netflix streamed it in 11 Asian markets. No platforms have been confirmed for the new episodes yet.
The story started life online. Satsuki Nakamura began posting it on Shosetsuka ni Naro in July 2020, and Ichijinsha put it into print that December with illustrations by YukiKana. A manga by Ei Ohitsuji runs in Monthly Comic Zero Sum, and Seven Seas Entertainment releases both the novels and the comic in English.
An exact January premiere date has not been set.
