Shinpei Gotou

Shinpei Gotou is the male lead of Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri), a romance set in Japan's Meiji era (1868 to 1912). He is a mysterious hired killer, and his violent work sets the whole story in motion.

Shinpei first crosses paths with Satoko Kirigaya, the daughter of a wealthy noble family, during an attack meant to end her life. To save herself, Satoko does something shocking: she asks him to marry her. What starts as a strange, almost fake arrangement slowly turns into real love.

Shinpei is hard to predict. He is dangerous, and his love can become possessive, meaning he wants to keep the person he loves all to himself. Yet he is also described as a man full of love, and his feelings for Satoko grow into the most important thing in his life.
