About
Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is the second film in Sunrise's Hathaway trilogy. It opened in Japanese theaters on January 30, 2026. Bandai Namco Filmworks brought it to US theaters starting May 15, 2026, and Netflix began streaming it worldwide on August 31, 2026. It runs about 108 minutes. Shuko Murase returned as director, Yasuyuki Muto again adapted the story, and Hiroyuki Sawano wrote the score once more. For the ending song, the film uses "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses.
Like the first film, this one adapts Hathaway's Flash, a set of novels by Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. It also belongs to the UC NexT 0100 project, a plan by the makers to tell more stories about the later years of the Universal Century, the main Gundam timeline. The trilogy itself was made to mark the franchise's 40th birthday.
The story picks up in the year 0105. The Earth Federation still rules Earth and the space colonies with a hard and unfair hand. Hathaway Noa, the son of the famous captain Bright Noa, secretly leads Mafty, a rebel group that kills corrupt government ministers. His next big target is the Adelaide Conference, a major meeting of Federation leaders in Australia. Mafty is getting ready to strike it.
But Hathaway is not at peace. Painful memories from his teenage years, during the war against Char, still hurt him. These old wounds come back because of Gigi Andalucia, a puzzling young woman who seems to have unusual powers of sensing. She says odd things that seem to see right through him, and he is drawn to her even as he tries to stay focused. His feelings for her make his mission harder to carry out.
On the other side is Colonel Kenneth Sleg of the Federation forces. He is building up the defense of Adelaide and making a plan to wipe out Mafty for good. A key part of that plan is a top team of pilots called the Circe Unit, which gives the film its name. Kenneth also gets a secret offer from Hundley Yeoksan, a man from the criminal police. Gigi, for her part, heads to Hong Kong with her own role to play. The three of them pull the story in different directions.
The film keeps the first movie's serious mood. It is a story about political violence, love, trauma, and the cost of choosing a side. The main cast returns, with Kensho Ono as Hathaway, Reina Ueda as Gigi, and Junichi Suwabe as Kenneth. Voices from older Gundam stories, such as Toru Furuya as Amuro Ray and Ken Narita as Bright Noa, also appear. In English, Caleb Yen, Megan Shipman, and Aaron Phillips lead the dub. One final film is still planned to finish Hathaway's story.
