About
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Conflict is the third of four parts in the anime that adapts the final arc of Tite Kubo's Bleach manga. It has 14 episodes and aired on TV Tokyo from October 5 to December 28, 2024. Starting with this part, the show was made under the name Pierrot Films, with Tomohisa Taguchi as chief director. Masaki Hiramatsu again wrote the series plan, and Shiro Sagisu, who scored the original Bleach anime, returned for the music. Kubo himself supervised the project, and this part adds more new, anime-only scenes than the earlier parts did.
To understand this part, it helps to know the basics. Bleach follows Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who gained the powers of a Soul Reaper. Soul Reapers are sword-fighting warriors from the Soul Society, the world where human souls go after death. They guard the balance between the living world, the Soul Society, and Hueco Mundo, the home of monsters called Hollows. The Thousand-Year Blood War arc starts when a hidden army called the Wandenreich declares war on the Soul Society. Its soldiers are Quincy, humans who fight with bows made of spirit energy. Their leader is Yhwach, a king who has waited a thousand years for revenge.
By the time The Conflict begins, the war has reached its most dangerous stage. The fight has moved up to the royal palace where the Soul King lives. The Soul King is a mysterious being whose existence holds the three worlds together. He is guarded by the Royal Guard, a small group of the strongest warriors in the Soul Society. Yhwach and his top fighters are now close to their final goal, and if they reach it, all three worlds could fall apart.
Ichigo has to push forward and face Yhwach. At the same time, his own family history ties him to the Quincy in ways that make this fight personal and confusing. His friends are pulled in different directions too, and some of them must make hard choices about where they stand. Back in the Soul Society, the remaining captains are running out of options. They begin to think about using strange, risky plans that would never have been allowed before.
This part is packed with large battles and dramatic reveals. The animation is sharp and stylish, using strong blacks, whites, and reds that match Kubo's art. Many side characters from across the whole Bleach story get key moments, which is a treat for long-time fans. Because so much happens, the pace is fast, and the story is easiest to follow for viewers who have seen the first two parts, The Blood Warfare and The Separation.
The Thousand-Year Blood War anime has been one of the most celebrated returns in recent anime. For many fans, it is the ending of Bleach they had wanted for more than ten years, since the original TV series stopped before this arc. The Conflict sets up everything for the fourth and final part, The Calamity, which premiered in July 2026 and brings the war to its close.
