Berserk of Gluttony

Berserk of Gluttony began as a web novel by Ichika Isshiki. It first appeared in 2017 on Shosetsuka ni Naro, a free website where anyone can post stories, and later moved to the site Kakuyomu. It then became a light novel series (a novel with anime-style pictures) drawn by the artist fame, and a manga drawn by Daisuke Takino. In English, Seven Seas Entertainment publishes both the novels and the manga. The manga won a prize at the 2024 Rakuten Kobo E-book Awards. The anime was made by the studio A.C.G.T. and directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa. It ran for 12 episodes from October to December 2023, and Crunchyroll streamed it outside East Asia.

The story takes place in a dark fantasy kingdom where every person has a special power called a skill. A strong skill can turn someone into a famous knight or a rich noble. A weak one can keep a person at the bottom of society for life. Many of the most important skills are named after the Seven Deadly Sins, such as greed, wrath, and lust. People with good skills hold the money, the land, and the respect. People without them are bullied and treated as if they do not matter. This gap between the strong and the weak is a big part of the show.

The hero, Fate Graphite, works as a gate guard for a noble family. His skill is called Gluttony, a word that means eating far too much. For years it seems to do nothing except make him feel hungry all the time. The nobles he works for laugh at him and treat him badly. Everything changes after a fight with a bandit ends in the bandit's death. Fate finds out that Gluttony can absorb the skills and strength of the people he defeats. Each fight makes him stronger. But the skill is never full for long, and Fate has to learn how to live with a power that always wants more.

Fate soon leaves the noble house to grow stronger and to pay back the people who hurt him. He does not travel alone. His closest partner is Greed, a living black sword that can talk and has a skill of its own. Roxy Hart is a young Holy Knight, one of the elite warriors who protect the kingdom. Unlike most nobles, she treats Fate as a real person, and the two slowly grow close. Later he also meets Myne, a woman with the Wrath skill who fights with a huge axe, and Eris Seifort, who has the Lust skill and her own plans for Fate.

The show mixes sword fights, monster hunting, and travel with a quiet romance and a story about revenge. Fate fights goblins and other dangerous creatures as he moves from place to place. Along the way, he starts to learn that his strange power is linked to a much bigger secret about his family and his kingdom. The tone is darker and more serious than many fantasy anime, and it spends real time on how unfair the class system is.

If you like stories where an underdog slowly becomes powerful, this series is a good fit. The first season tells the start of Fate's journey. A second season was announced in April 2026 and is planned for 2027.
