Rie Takahashi takes the lead in The King's Proposal, Aniplex's 2027 anime of Koshi Tachibana's mage-academy novels
Aniplex cast Takahashi as Saika Kuozaki, the world's strongest mage, during Fantasia Bunko's October 25 livestream, alongside a teaser visual and a 2027 premiere window. No studio or staff have been named yet.
Rie Takahashi has her next lead role. The TV anime of The King's Proposal (Ousama no Propose) will premiere in 2027, with Takahashi voicing Saika Kuozaki, the mage at the center of Koshi Tachibana's light novels. Aniplex shared the casting on October 25 in the online broadcast of KADOKAWA's Daikanshasai 2026 fan event for its Fantasia Bunko imprint, together with a teaser visual of Saika and a short comment video from Takahashi.
That is nearly everything confirmed so far. The animation studio, the director and the rest of the staff have not been named, and neither the broadcaster nor an exact air date is known. The adaptation itself was first revealed in October 2025, so this is the first casting the project has shared in a year.
The premise mixes a fantasy academy with a swapped identity. Saika, ranked as the most powerful mage alive, is fatally wounded and hands both her magic and her body to Mushiki Kuga, an unremarkable high school boy. Mushiki then has to enroll at a school for mages while passing as Saika and keeping the truth of who is inside hidden.
Tachibana writes the novels with illustrations by Tsunako, the same pairing behind Date A Live. Fujimi Shobo has released them under its Fantasia Bunko line since September 2021; eight volumes are out, and the ninth arrives in Japan on December 18. Yen Press handles the English edition.
A manga version drawn by Nemo Kurio also exists. It began on Gangan Online, Square Enix's web manga site, in February 2023 and has been collected in six volumes.
