Iruma-kun's mafia spinoff, IruMafia Edition, sets a January 4, 2027 premiere with its main visual and returning cast
The 12-episode TV anime of Osamu Nishi and hiroja's "what if" manga, which recasts Iruma as the adopted heir of a demon crime family, starts on January 4 with Tatsunoko Production animating and Ayumu Murase back as Iruma.
Iruma Suzuki has traded his school uniform for a white suit and fedora. That is the look on the new key art for Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun: IruMafia Edition (Mairimashita! Iruma-kun: If Episode of Mafia), unveiled October 27 with the boy in the middle of a six-strong group coming down a flight of stairs, everyone else dressed in black. Individual art for each of the six arrived too, and so did a launch date of January 4, 2027.
Twelve episodes are planned, airing in a Monday 11 p.m. slot on NHK General TV. The project was first revealed on February 4 of this year, back then with nothing more than a teaser image and a January 2027 target.
Forget Babyls. In this alternate take Iruma is a penniless, kind-hearted kid scraping by in the back streets of a brutal city. He takes care of an old man he finds near death, only to learn that the stranger is Don Sullivan, boss of the Babel Mafia, who adopts him as a grandson and names him the next in line to run the family. The source is an Akita Shoten manga that pairs creator Osamu Nishi with artist hiroja; AnimeTV counts nine collected volumes so far.
On the microphone side nothing changes. Iruma is again Ayumu Murase; Opera, Mitsuki Saiga; Kalego, Daisuke Ono; Alice, Ryohei Kimura; Clara, Ayaka Asai; and Ameri, Saori Hayami.
Behind the camera it is a new crew. Tatsunoko Production animates, Keiichiro Kawaguchi directs, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu oversees the scripts, Kenji Fujisaki adapts the designs, Bao Chong Wang leads the art team and Yayoi Sekimukai composes. By contrast the parent series, launched in fall 2019, was made at Bandai Namco Pictures for all four of its seasons, the most recent starting in April 2026.
Nishi's main manga continues in Weekly Shonen Champion, where its tankobon count hit 50 on September 8, 2026. A first feature film for the franchise is also underway, announced in September.
