How the series got here
Koshi Tachibana's light novels, illustrated by Tsunako and published by Fujimi Shobo, ran to 22 volumes and concluded in 2020; Yen Press releases them in English. The premise has high schooler Shido meet a girl at the center of a spacequake and learn that she is a Spirit, one of many beings he can only seal by making them fall in love with him.
The anime began in spring 2013 at AIC PLUS+ under director Keitaro Motonaga. Production IMS and J.C. Staff each took a turn on later seasons, and GEEKTOYS made the two most recent. Date A Live V, the fifth TV season, premiered in April 2024, two and a half years before this date reveal. Along the way the franchise added a theatrical film, Date A Live Mayuri Judgement (2015), and spin-offs including Date A Bullet. On Crunchyroll, viewers can find every TV season so far plus Mayuri Judgement and the Date A Bullet OVA.
