Shido Itsuka is a kind, patient high schooler with an unusual job: sealing the dangerous powers of beings called Spirits by making them trust him enough to accept a kiss, which only works if the Spirit genuinely cares about him. He was apparently abandoned by his birth mother as a baby and raised by the Itsuka family, though later revelations complicate even that part of his history.

Shido's closest bonds form with Tooka Yatogami, the first Spirit he saves, and Origami Tobiichi, a classmate hunting Spirits for her own reasons, both of whom come to care for him deeply. His younger foster sister, Kotori Itsuka, commands the secret organization Ratatoskr, which supports Shido's efforts from behind the scenes, while his previously unknown biological sister, Mana, has her own complicated history with the Spirits he protects.

Later in the story, it is revealed that Shido was originally a different person, killed years earlier, and effectively recreated as a human-Spirit hybrid by a being named Mio, who comes to see herself as a kind of mother to him. Under pressure, the unstable Spirit power sealed inside Shido can surface and turn him uncharacteristically cold and arrogant, a stark contrast to his usual gentle, caring nature.

Date A Live F Last Date is the newest anime in the Date A Live series, and the title says it is meant to be the last one. The project was first announced on April 10, 2025, exactly one year after the fifth TV season had premiered. The full name was revealed on April 10, 2026, together with a teaser video and a key visual. Junji Nishimura, who directed Mechanical Marie, is the director. The studio is Fugaku, which is known for Uzumaki. AniList lists it as a movie that opens in Japan on March 26, 2027. One report shared that date, but the official Date A Live channels had not clearly confirmed it at the time of writing. Date A Live began as a series of light novels, which are short Japanese novels with anime-style pictures. Koshi Tachibana wrote them and Tsunako drew the art. Fujimi Shobo published 22 volumes between 2011 and 2020, and Yen Press brought them to English readers. The anime first aired in 2013. Four more TV seasons followed in 2014, 2019, 2022, and 2024, made by several different studios. The world of the story is shaped by strange disasters called spatial quakes (in English editions these are often called spacequakes). A huge one once wiped out the middle of Eurasia, and smaller ones keep hitting at random times. They happen when beings called Spirits arrive from another dimension. Shido Itsuka is an ordinary high school boy until he meets one of these girls in the middle of a quake. He learns that he has a rare gift. He can take away a Spirit's dangerous power, but only if he makes her fall in love with him and then kisses her. His younger adopted sister, Kotori, turns out to be the commander of the airship Fraxinus. It belongs to a secret group called Ratatoskr, which wants to save the Spirits through dates instead of fighting. A military team called the AST, supported by the company DEM Industries, would rather destroy them. This mix is what makes the series different. It is a romantic comedy full of awkward dates and jokes, but it is also a science fiction action story with big battles, airships, and powered suits. Shido is surrounded by many girls who like him, so the series also has a large "harem" side, a genre word for stories where one hero has many love interests. Fans love the Spirits for their very different personalities. The new film brings back the main voice cast. Nobunaga Shimazaki returns as Shido, and Marina Inoue returns as Tohka Yatogami, the first Spirit he meets. Ayana Taketatsu plays Kotori, and Asami Sanada plays Kurumi Tokisaki. Misuzu Togashi, Minori Chihara, Iori Naomizu, Maaya Uchida, Sara Emo Birdcutt, Ayumi Mano, Akari Kageyama, Hitomi Nabatame, and Aya Endo also come back. The official story hint says that the long battle seemed to be over. But Rasiel, an angel power that holds knowledge, warns that a new disaster is on its way. The film is best for viewers who have already watched the earlier seasons.
