Four first places went to a single show. When Newtype's editorial team posted this year's Newtype Anime Awards results on October 17, Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai) led the TV and streaming category and also won director (Masahiro Ando), character design (Nobuhiro Arai, credited alongside original creator Hiromu Arakawa) and theme song, for Vaundy's opening "Tobu Toki."

The awards are decided by a fan vote that Kadokawa runs through its monthly magazine Newtype. Ballots closed on September 10, and the eligible works began with titles from July 2025.

Bones Film's other placings

Beyond its wins, the Arakawa adaptation stacked up placings elsewhere. Series composer Noboru Takagi came second for screenplay and composer Kenichiro Suehiro second for sound. Yuru ranked second among male characters and Asa fourth among female characters, and Bones Film, which animated the series, was third in the studio vote.

The 24-episode series premiered in April 2026, and a second season has already been announced. Outside Japan it streams on Crunchyroll and Netflix, and on Hulu in the US.

Frieren takes the writing prize

The runner-up for TV and streaming series was Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2, the 10-episode run that began in January 2026. Its series composer Tomohiro Suzuki won first place for screenplay. Madhouse's sequel also took second for director (Tomoya Kitagawa), character design (Maru Takase, Keisuke Kojima and Yuri Fujinaka) and studio, and Evan Call placed third for sound.

The theatrical ranking

In the film category, first place went to Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Part 1, Akaza Returns. The top five continued with Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc and the new Gintama film Yoshiwara Daienjo.

Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, the January 2026 film from Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato about a girl named Iroha and the runaway from the Moon who moves in with her, also won the sound prize, shared by score composer Conisch and ryo, who wrote its songs. It streams on Netflix.

Among the performers, the voice actor prize went to Kenjiro Tsuda.
