Latifa

Latifa is a young fox beastkin girl, meaning she has fox ears and a tail as part of her body, living in the Beltrum Kingdom. Underneath that childlike appearance, though, she carries the memories of an elementary school girl from Japan named Suzune Endo, who somehow ended up reborn in this new body and world.

Before the story's hero Rio finds her, Latifa's life is bleak. She had been enslaved and trained as an assassin under a cruel duke, forced into a life she never chose. Rio frees her from that captivity, and from then on she attaches herself to him almost like a little sister, following him loyally and treating him as the closest thing she has to family in this world.

Her feelings for Rio are more complicated than simple sisterly affection, though, since traces of her past life as an older student named Suzune bleed through in quiet ways. She often reacts with jealousy whenever other women, such as Celia Claire, get close to Rio, hinting that her attachment to him runs deeper than she lets on. Her story is really about healing: rebuilding a sense of safety and identity after being treated as a weapon, while slowly figuring out who she wants to be now that she has a second chance at childhood.
