Kenpachi Zaraki

Kenpachi Zaraki is the captain of the 11th Division in Soul Society, the fighting squad of the Soul Reapers. He is one of the strongest and scariest warriors in Bleach. He did not become a Soul Reaper through school or an exam like others. Instead, he took his captain's seat the old way: he beat and killed the captain before him.

He grew up with no name in District 80 of Rukongai, the poorest and most dangerous part of the spirit world. It was full of thieves and killers. There, he taught himself to fight with a sword and became deadly. One day, he met a small girl who was not afraid of his blade. He named her Yachiru, after the only person he had ever admired, and she became like a daughter to him. At the same time he took the name "Kenpachi," a title for the strongest swordsman. His last name, Zaraki, comes from the district where he grew up.

Kenpachi lives for battle. His favorite thing is to fight strong opponents, and he goes looking for them. He does not care much about rules or rank. His loyal officer Ikkaku Madarame joined him after losing to him in a fight, and he still hopes for a rematch someday. For Kenpachi, a good fight matters more than winning a war.
