Sound! Euphonium 3 is the third TV season of the much-loved music drama from Kyoto Animation. It aired in Japan on NHK Educational TV from April to June 2024 and has 13 episodes. The story comes from a series of novels by Ayano Takeda. Those books follow the concert band at Kitauji High School, a real-feeling public school in the city of Uji, near Kyoto. A concert band is a large school group that plays wind instruments like flutes, trumpets, and tubas, plus drums. This season covers the last school year of Kumiko Oumae. When the show began, Kumiko was a quiet first-year who played the euphonium, a small brass horn that looks like a tiny tuba. She often hid her true feelings. Now she is a third-year student, and she has been chosen as band president. The club is bigger than ever, with more than ninety members. Leading that many teenagers is a hard job. Kumiko must listen to everyone, solve fights, and still practice her own part. Kumiko does not lead alone. Her childhood friend Shuichi Tsukamoto is vice president. Her closest friend, the proud and gifted trumpet player Reina Kousaka, becomes drum major, the student who leads practice and sets the standard for the whole band. Reina is very strict. She wants the band to play at its best every day, and some members feel she pushes too hard. Kumiko is often stuck in the middle, trying to keep the peace between Reina and the others. Old friends from the low brass section, such as Hazuki Katou and Sapphire Kawashima, are also back for their final year. At the start of the year, the band agrees on one clear goal: to win a gold prize at the national contest. The team has chased this dream for years. To help reach it, their teacher and conductor, Noboru Taki, keeps holding open auditions. That means anyone, even a new student, can win a solo or a spot in the contest group. This is where a new girl changes everything. Mayu Kuroe is a third-year who transfers to Kitauji from Seira, one of the strongest band schools in the region. She also plays the euphonium, and she is very, very good. Mayu is calm and friendly, but her skill means Kumiko could lose the solo part and her place in the spotlight in her final year. The season asks hard questions. Is it fair to choose only the best player? What does a leader owe her friends? How do you stay true to yourself when your dream is on the line? The show is known for its beautiful animation, careful sound, and real performance scenes that feel like a live concert. It also gives time to quiet moments, such as walks by the river and late talks after practice. Many fans see this season as the emotional peak of the story, because it ends Kumiko's high school journey. It is a warm but tense drama about music, growing up, and learning to lead.
