Yuichi Nakamura joins Kagurabachi as the Kamunabi powerhouse Soshiro Azami
The April 2027 TV anime of Takeru Hokazono's Weekly Shonen Jump hit cast the veteran actor as one of the few sorcerers who know Chihiro exists, with a new character visual and trailer.
The sorcerer who can flatten an opponent with brute strength will speak in Yuichi Nakamura's voice. The Kagurabachi TV anime confirmed on October 2 that the veteran actor has been cast as Soshiro Azami, and marked the news with a fresh character visual plus a dedicated trailer, posted in both Japanese and English-subtitled cuts.
Who Azami is
Azami belongs to the Kamunabi, the sorcerer organization in Takeru Hokazono's story, and his official profile ranks him among its most dangerous fighters. He is also part of a small circle aware of Chihiro, the protagonist whose very existence the group has kept under wraps. In comments released with the casting, Nakamura described the character as "someone who is serious, yet carries a bit of a dry demeanor," a realist who acts as a foil to the more romantic Shiba: kind-hearted, but always keeping a little distance.
Nakamura also said he first read the manga while auditioning and felt it captured the recent "spirit of Jump" so well that he kept going through every volume out so far.
The story behind the blades
Kagurabachi is a revenge tale centered on Chihiro Rokuhira, a swordsmith's son. After his father is killed, Chihiro takes up Enten, seventh of the Enchanted Blades, and sets out after Hishaku, the sorcerer group that seized the other six. The manga is serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump, and its cumulative circulation, digital copies included, has topped 4.5 million.
Who's making it
Animation comes from Cypic, the CyberAgent-group studio whose credits include Umamusume: Cinderella Gray and The Summer Hikaru Died. Director Tetsuya Takeuchi arrives with a strong action pedigree: he served as action animation director on Sword Art Online II and worked on Heavenly Delusion as a battle-scene storyboarder, episode director and animation director. Keigo Sasaki, known for Blue Exorcist and The Seven Deadly Sins, handles character designs, while Shochiku and CyberAgent head up the committee backing the show.
Nakamura joins a cast headed by Taihi Kimura, the 2025 Seiyu Awards Best New Actor winner, as Chihiro. Tomokazu Seki plays Kunishige Rokuhira, Katsuyuki Konishi is Togo Shiba, Miku Ito voices Hinao, and Miyari Nemoto plays Char Kyonagi.
When it arrives
The series is slated for April 2027, without a specific day yet. Crunchyroll has the streaming rights outside Japan, South Korea, North Korea and mainland China, and the official press release also names MUSE and SMG Holdings among its partners.
