Reincarnated as a Sword returns for a second season in October 2026. The first season, made by Studio C2C, aired from October to December 2022. The show is based on light novels by Yuu Tanaka, with art by Llo. The story began as a free web novel in 2015, and the publisher Micro Magazine started printing it as books in 2016. There are now more than 20 volumes. Viewers in Japan can watch new episodes on the streaming service Abema one week early, starting October 1, 2026. The regular TV broadcast begins a week later, on October 8. The idea is simple and fun. A man from our world dies and wakes up in a fantasy world full of monsters and magic. But he is not reborn as a person. He is reborn as a sword. He can think, talk in people's heads, use magic, and even float and move on his own. He also gets stronger by absorbing the magic stones found inside monsters. Still, a sword needs someone to hold it. That someone is Fran, a young girl from the Black Cat tribe. The Black Cats are a race of cat-eared people who are treated badly by others. Fran was a slave when the sword found her. With his help, she escapes and defeats a dangerous monster. She gives the sword a name: "Teacher." From then on, the two travel together as a team. Fran is quiet, brave, and loves good food, especially curry. Teacher is kind and protective and acts almost like a father to her. Fran has a big dream. No one in the Black Cat tribe has ever been able to "evolve," which means growing into a stronger, higher form. Other cat tribes can do it, but the Black Cats are said to be unable. Fran wants to be the first. To get there, she and Teacher work as adventurers. They take jobs from the adventurers' guild, fight monsters, explore dungeons, and meet many allies and rivals. The series is a type of isekai, a story where someone is sent to another world. It stands out because of its unusual hero and the warm bond between Fran and Teacher. A critic at Anime News Network praised the way the two main characters talk and work together, though the reviewer also noted that the show is similar to other popular isekai such as That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. The fights are exciting, with lots of skills and spells, and there is also a gentle, cozy side with meals, shopping, and friendly side characters. Season 2 continues Fran and Teacher's journey, so it is best to watch the first season first.
