Takopii no Genzai: Arigatou, Mata Ashita

Takopi's Original Sin: Thank You, See You Tomorrow is a theatrical film version of the Takopi's Original Sin anime. It opens in Japanese theaters on November 27, 2026. It was announced in May 2026. The film takes all six episodes of the 2025 series and re-edits them into one feature-length movie. It also adds brand-new scenes and extra shots made for the big screen. Studio ENISHIYA, which made the series, is behind the film.

The original story is a short manga by Taizan 5. It ran on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ app from December 2021 to March 2022, in just 16 chapters. Even so, it became a sensation, with more than 1.2 million copies in circulation by May 2022. It won an Excellence Prize at the Japan Cartoonists Association Awards in 2022. Viz Media publishes it in English. The anime series, directed by Shinya Iino, streamed from June 28 to August 2, 2025, on services including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Crunchyroll. It was praised for its storytelling, direction, and visuals, and it won Drama Anime of the Year at the 2026 Anime Trending Awards.

The story looks like a children's tale at first. Takopi is a small, round, octopus-like alien from a faraway planet of happiness. He comes to Earth with one goal: to spread joy. He carries special gadgets from his planet that can do amazing things. Soon he meets Shizuka, a quiet nine-year-old girl, and decides to make her smile.

But Shizuka's life is full of pain. At school, a classmate named Marina bullies her badly. At home, things are not much better. Takopi is kind but very innocent. He does not really understand human feelings, cruelty, or how complicated people's lives are. His gadgets seem like easy answers, but his attempts to help do not go the way he hopes, and sometimes they make things much worse.

The contrast between Takopi's cute, colorful design and the dark story around him is what makes the work so powerful. It is a story about bullying, neglect, broken families, and how hurt children can end up hurting each other. It also asks what it really means to help someone and to understand them.

Please note that this story contains very heavy themes, including abuse and suicide. It is meant for mature viewers, despite its cute look. For people who have not seen the series, the film is a chance to watch the whole story at once, with extra scenes that fans have not seen before.
