Ookami to Koushinryou: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF 2nd Season

Spice and Wolf is coming back. This new series continues the 2024 remake of the beloved fantasy romance, which itself was based on the light novels by Isuna Hasekura with art by Jyuu Ayakura. A light novel is a Japanese novel for young readers, often with anime-style pictures. The first part of the remake ran for 25 episodes in 2024, made by Studio Passione. This next part comes from the same studio.

On August 31, 2026, the official anime website announced that the new episodes will start airing in 2027. An exact month or day has not been shared yet. Around that time, Kadokawa also showed a short teaser video during an online Dengeki Bunko event. Dengeki Bunko is the book label that publishes the original novels. The event also revealed new cast news: actress Romi Park will voice Eve Bolan, a sharp and bold trader who is an important figure in the books.

If you are new to the story, here is the basic idea. Kraft Lawrence is a young traveling trader. He moves from town to town by horse and cart, buying and selling goods to earn a living. One day he meets Holo, a very old wolf spirit who usually looks like a young girl with wolf ears and a tail. For centuries she watched over the wheat fields of a farm village. Now she wants to go back to Yoitsu, her home far to the north. Lawrence agrees to travel with her, and they become partners on the road.

The world of the show feels like Europe in the Middle Ages. Towns are run by merchant groups and local lords, and a strong Church tries to push out the old gods of nature, like Holo. The story is not about big battles. Instead, it is about money, trade deals, prices, and the clever tricks people use to win or cheat in business. Each new town brings a new deal and a new danger, and one bad choice can ruin Lawrence.

The new episodes are expected to keep following the light novels after the point where the 2024 run stopped. Eve Bolan's casting suggests her part of the story will get real focus. In the books, she is a trader who is willing to take huge risks for profit, which makes her an interesting match for the careful Lawrence. We will not spoil what happens, but fans can expect more tense business plans, new cities, and harder choices about the future.

The heart of the series is still the bond between Lawrence and Holo. Holo is proud, playful, and very smart, and she loves to tease her travel partner. Lawrence is kind but sometimes slow to understand his own feelings. Their long, funny talks on the road are a big part of why fans love this story. The sequel should give viewers more of that warm, quiet romance, along with the slow, steady journey north toward Holo's lost home.
