HELL MODE: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World with Garbage Balancing Season 2

This is the second season of Hell Mode, based on the light novels by Hamuo with art by Mo. It aired in the summer of 2026. It began on July 3, 2026, only a few months after the first season ended in March, and it ran 13 episodes until September. Yokohama Animation Laboratory made it again, with Masato Tamagawa as director. In North America it streams on HIDIVE. The promotional art and trailer told fans that this season covers the Academy Arc. A new cast member also joined: Takahiro Sakurai, known for Jujutsu Kaisen, voices Helmios, a famous Hero.

A quick reminder of the basics. Allen was once Kenichi Yamada, a Japanese office worker who loved very hard games. He chose a setting called Hell Mode and the Summoner class, and then woke up in a fantasy world as a baby born to a family of serfs. Serfs are poor farm workers tied to their lord's land. In the first season, Allen grew up, trained with endless patience, and worked to lift his family out of their hard life. In this world, growth is slow for him, but it has no limit.

Season two moves the story to a new place: Academy City. Allen begins a new life at a school where young people with strong talents are trained to fight. The kingdom needs them, because a Demon Lord's army is a constant threat. Very early, a ceremony that tests and appraises students' abilities draws unwanted attention. Allen ends up noticed by Helmios the Hero, the most famous fighter around.

At the academy, Allen forms a party, a team of adventurers who fight together, as in a role-playing game. He names it the No-Life Gamers, a small joke about his old life. His childhood friend Krena, a gifted sword fighter, is part of the group, along with others. The team has a good start, but problems come fast. Their healer cannot join them full-time. Krena has a lot of raw power, but she does not yet know how to use her skills. Allen has to plan around these gaps.

There is also tension inside the team. Cecil comes from the Granvelle family of nobles. When Keel learns this, he becomes very angry. He later explains why: he heard that his own family fell into ruin because of a plot by the Granvelles. Allen must keep his party together while old grudges come to the surface.

The season keeps what fans liked about the first one. Allen still thinks like a gamer, testing rules, counting numbers, and finding clever uses for his summoned creatures. But now the story is also about teamwork, school life, noble politics, and friends who each carry their own problems. It is a good next step for anyone who enjoyed watching Allen slowly grow from a serf child into a real power in his world.
