Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising gets a four-day U.S. theatrical run on January 16-19, 2027, in sub and dub
Aniplex of America and Fathom Entertainment will screen the Rebellion sequel nationwide for four days in January, with tickets on sale December 11. The earlier three films reach Crunchyroll on November 8 and Netflix on January 2.
American audiences who missed the August opening in Japan now have a window: January 16 through 19, 2027. Aniplex of America and Fathom Entertainment used New York Comic Con on October 8 to confirm that Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- will play exclusively in U.S. cinemas for those four days, with both an English-subtitled and an English-dubbed version on offer. Tickets open on December 11, 2026, online and at the box offices of participating theaters. To mark the occasion, Aniplex of America also showed a U.S.-only illustration by the artist Namie.
A sequel more than a decade in the making
The film continues the story left off by Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Rebellion-, which premiered in October 2013. Its own road to cinemas was not smooth: Anime Corner notes it was pushed back several times from an original Japanese release planned for winter 2024 before it finally opened there on August 28, 2026, including IMAX screenings.
The creative lineup will be familiar. Akiyuki Shinbo is chief director at studio SHAFT, Gen Urobuchi wrote the script, Ume Aoki provided original character designs, Junichirō Taniguchi adapted them for animation, and Yuki Kajiura composed the music. Gekidan Inu Curry is again in charge of the series' signature witch-space designs.
The Japanese voice cast reunites Aoi Yūki as Madoka Kaname and Chiwa Saito as Homura Akemi, with Kaori Mizuhashi, Eri Kitamura and Ai Nonaka back as Mami, Sayaka and Kyōko, Kana Asumi as Nagisa Momoe and Emiri Katō as Kyubey. Newcomers include Shion Wakayama as Shichōka, Tomoyo Kurosawa as Selma Therese and Maaya Sakamoto as an unnamed upperclassman. English dub casting was not part of the announcement.
Catching up before January
The same panel lined up the older films for anyone who needs a refresher. Part 1: Beginnings and Part 2: Eternal, both released in October 2012, and Rebellion will come to Crunchyroll on November 8, then to Netflix on January 2. From November 15 the trilogy gains Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese dubs, which Final Weapon and Anime Corner both describe as available for the first time. A 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray set of the three films, wrapped in exclusive package art by Taniguchi, is up for pre-order through the Crunchyroll Store and MediaOCD at $149.98.
