Akio is loud and silly, and Sanae is warm and gentle, and her homemade bread is famous for being terrible. They treat Tomoya like a son. Their happy home shows Tomoya what a family can be, and it stands in sharp contrast to the cold house he grew up in. The second half of the season is where the series becomes known for its sadness.
