Mayu Kuroe

Mayu Kuroe arrives at Kitauji High School's concert band partway through high school, having spent her earlier years at Seira Girls' School, a rival program whose band regularly reached the national stage. As a fellow euphonium player, her arrival puts her in direct competition with the band's returning star, Kumiko Oumae, for the same solo instrument spot.

Despite her clear skill, Mayu is surprisingly hesitant about auditioning for the solo part. She worries that if she wins, she will be taking something away from Kumiko, who has worked for years to earn her place in the band.
