Lacus Clyne

Lacus Clyne is a beloved singer from the space colonies known as PLANT, where her gentle voice and warm personality have made her something of a celebrity. She is the daughter of Siegel Clyne, a leading political figure among the Coordinators, genetically enhanced humans who live in space, and her fame gives her influence well beyond the stage.

Behind her soft-spoken, popular image is someone surprisingly decisive and persuasive. When the war between Coordinators and ordinary humans spirals out of control, Lacus does not stay on the sidelines. She takes real risks, at one point delivering a powerful Gundam to Kira Yamato, the pilot who becomes both her closest friend and eventually the person she chooses to love. She also becomes co-leader of a faction working to pull both sides back from endless fighting, using her voice, literally and politically, to push for peace instead of victory for either side.

Lacus is not easily swayed by others' plans for her life, either. When a suitor tries to win her over by pointing to their shared ancestry, she turns him down without hesitation. She shows the same firm kindness toward a young woman who was made to look just like her and used as a decoy; rather than resent her, Lacus encourages her to stop living in someone else's shadow and become her own person. Through her friendship with Kira and her refusal to be used as a political pawn, Lacus proves that gentleness and strength can exist in the same person.
