Kaze wo Tsugumono is an original TV anime from Aniplex. Its English title is Inherit the Winds. It is set in Kyoto in the final years of the Edo period, a time Japanese people call the Bakumatsu. This was a time of fear and fast change. The old rule of the shoguns was close to its end, and swordsmen on many sides fought for what they believed in. The story begins in June 1863. A man is brought to the headquarters of the Mibu Roshigumi, a group of swordsmen in Kyoto. This group would later become famous under a new name, the Shinsengumi. The man has no memory at all. He does not know who he is or where he came from. Souji Okita, a high-ranking member of the group, takes him in. Okita gives him a name, Jinsuke Tachikawa, so that he can start a new life. From that day, Jinsuke lives among the Mibu soldiers. Most of them are young men. They eat together, train together, and face danger together. The anime wants to show how short and bright their youth was, in a time when life could end very quickly. Other characters include Hyougo Koganei, who is one of the main cast, and well-known historical figures such as Kamo Serizawa and Hajime Saito. Toshizo Hijikata and Isami Kondo, two real leaders of the Shinsengumi, have also been announced for the cast. There is a hint of mystery in the story. Jinsuke slowly wants to know his own past. One official summary says that when he finally gets all his memories back, the world around him changes forever. Nothing more is said about what he will learn, so the show keeps its biggest secret for the viewer to discover. The anime comes from the stage. The writer, Yutaka Narui, is a playwright who started the theater group Caramel Box. He has written many plays about the Shinsengumi, including a series of stories about Jinsuke Tachikawa. Narui wrote the script for this anime as well. Tomohiro Kawamura directs it. The animation is made by Live2D Creative Studio together with Drive Inc. The music is by Shigeru Kishida, and the theme songs are by the bands Hitsujibungaku and Quruli. The Japanese voice cast includes Daisuke Sakuma as Jinsuke, Yuuki Kaji as Souji Okita, and Aoi Yuuki as Hyougo Koganei. Kappei Yamaguchi, Daisuke Hirakawa, and Yasuyuki Kase are also in the cast. The series is planned to start in January 2027 on the Agaru Anime block of CBC, TBS, and other TV networks in Japan. If you enjoy history, sword fights, and quiet stories about friendship and loss of memory, this one is worth watching for.
