Guan Chao

False Memory is a Chinese animated series, also called a donghua, that first aired on the streaming site Bilibili on August 2, 2026. It has seven episodes. Its Chinese title is Jiyi Guanli Ju, which means Memory Management Bureau. The series continues a one-episode short film from 2020 that came from Studio Tumble and Flint Sugar. This new version grew out of that earlier work, and it has attracted attention for its bold images and its dark, mind-bending mood. The setting mixes a future city with a strange world made of memories. In this world, memories are not just thoughts in the head. They are places that a person can enter, and they are stacked in layers, a bit like the floors of a building. A government office called the Memory Management Bureau looks after these layers. Its workers, called administrators, go inside to fix problems. One kind of problem is a bug. A bug is a being that should not be there, and it can twist a memory out of shape. The hero is Guan Chao. He has one big wish: to go back in time. To do that, he needs a device called the Time Gun. The gun needs a special fuel, a rare source of energy that is called the Burning Stone in some translations. While he hunts for it, Guan Chao falls by accident into the Memory Management Bureau. He is now trapped inside, and the only way out is to work with the people who run the place. Two administrators, Fang Tang and Bai Zhong, join him. Together they go from one memory layer to the next. On each level they must find the bugs, deal with them, and bring back the people caught inside. The fights are fast and use strange powers, but the show also asks the viewer to solve a puzzle. What is real, and what has been changed? Why does Guan Chao want to return to the past so much? The themes include memory, regret, and growing up. When you can change the past, should you? The series seems to ask how much of who we are comes from what we remember. Tags used for the show include mystery, psychology, urban fantasy, and cyberpunk, and the style is sometimes called mixed media because it blends different kinds of art and effects. The tone is tense and unusual, with a feeling of being inside a dream. It will best suit viewers who like psychological stories and bold visual style. Because few details about the staff have been widely published, this overview sticks to the premise and setting that the sources agree on.
