About
Yumene Connect is a school comedy with a space twist. It comes from a manga written and drawn by Ko Sawada. The manga began in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine in September 2024. By July 2026 it had nine books, and a tenth was set for October 2026. An anime version was announced on October 14, 2026. It is being made by Studio Massket and directed by Sota Yokote. Gigaemon Echikawa is writing the scripts, Yoshihiro Watanabe is designing the characters, and Hayato Matsumura is making the music. A start date for the show had not been shared yet when it was announced.
The hero is Yuhi Takamiya, a first-year high school student. He got sick and stayed home for the first week of the school year. When he finally comes to class, he has no friends. To hide how lonely he feels, he acts like a quiet boy who only cares about his books. Deep down, though, he badly wants someone to talk to.
That wish is heard by someone very far from home. Nano is an alien who works for the Yumeneko Company. She comes to Earth and tries to help Yuhi by using her company's products, and Yuhi becomes her customer, whether he is ready or not. Her strange tools are supposed to help him. In practice, they usually cause a big mess for Yuhi and for everyone near him. Nano soon moves into his house. Another alien creature with a long, silly name, Nyoru Puppu Panpippi, lives with them too.
The story has a growing group of people around Yuhi. Koharu Takamiya is his older sister, who works as a nurse. Kana Shiraishi is a classmate who loves cute things, and she becomes his first real friend. Momoka Saeki is an older student who wants to start an Occult Research Club, a school club for studying ghosts, magic, and other mysteries. Her younger brother Hikaru is in Yuhi's class but often skips school.
The humor is mostly slapstick, which means loud physical comedy: falls, crashes, and wild accidents. There is also some romantic comedy, and the series has ecchi content. Ecchi is a Japanese word for playful, sexy humor, often with revealing scenes. Under all the noise, the heart of the story is simple. It is about a shy boy who wants to belong, and the odd visitor from another world who keeps pushing him toward other people.
In the anime, Yuhi is voiced by Yusuke Kobayashi and Nano by Yu Sasahara, according to the sources cited by Wikipedia. Fans of fast, silly school comedies with science fiction ideas, such as visitors from space, may want to keep an eye on this one.
