About
There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero's Party, So I Tried Confessing to Her (Yuusha Party ni Kawaii Ko ga Ita no de, Kokuhaku Shitemita.) is a fantasy comedy that turns a very old story upside down. In most fantasy tales, the hero fights the demons. Here, one of the demons spends the battle thinking about romance. The anime was announced in July 2025 and aired for 13 episodes on Tuesday nights from January to March 2026. It was made by the studio Gekkou. Tomonori Mine directed it, and the music and series composition involved MONACA and Satoru Kosaki. The story comes from a light novel and manga series with credits to Suisei, La-Na, and Kairi.
The main character is Youki. In his first life, he dies in a traffic accident. He is born again in a fantasy world, but he does not become a hero. He becomes a demon, and a very strong one. The surprise is that Youki has no wish to rise in rank. He does not want to be the next Demon Lord, the king of all demons. He is happy with a small job as a low-level guard in the Demon Lord's castle. Quiet work suits him fine.
Then a group of heroes arrives to attack the castle. Youki defeats them all with ease. But instead of finishing the job, he heals them. The reason is a girl in the group: Cecilia Aquaraine, the party's priestess. A priestess in this kind of world is a healer who uses holy magic. Youki sees her and falls in love at first sight. From that moment, his goals change. He wants to tell her how he feels.
This creates a funny problem. Youki is a demon, and Cecilia is on the side that fights demons. If the Demon Lord learns that one of his guards is trying to date a hero, there could be trouble. So the story is about a very kind, very shy monster trying to be honest about his feelings while hiding in plain sight. The comedy comes from the gap between his huge power and his small, nervous heart.
The cast includes more than the two leads. Kana Hanazawa voices Cecilia in Japanese, and Kouhei Amasaki voices Youki. Other characters include Happiness, Miller, Raven, Sophia, Gar, Yuuga, a boy, and Clayman. Some are members of the hero's party, and some are other demons.
The show uses familiar fantasy ideas, such as reincarnation into another world, magic, and monsters, and it plays them for laughs and sweet romance. If you like light stories where enemies slowly learn about each other, this is an easy and friendly place to start.
