Houkago no Idol ni wa Himitsu ga Aru

This upcoming TV anime is based on the manga Everyone's Darling Has a Secret by Kashiko Amane. Its Japanese title is Houkago no Idol ni wa Himitsu ga Aru, which means something like "the after-school idol has a secret." The manga first appeared as a preview in Hakusensha's magazine Young Animal in July 2022. It then became a regular series on Hakusensha's Manga Park and Young Animal Web from September 2022, and it had nine volumes by July 2026. Yen Press publishes it in English, and the first volume came out on January 21, 2025.

The anime was announced on September 28, 2026, and it is planned to premiere in April 2027. The studio Gekkou is making it, and Hikaru Sato is the director. Fumihiko Shimo writes the scripts and plans the series. The character designer is Kibidango 14-go. Satoru Kosaki and the music group Monaca are writing the music. The main voice cast has also been announced. Reiji Kawashima plays Hizashi Hiruno, and Hikaru Tono plays Rei Kuromiya. Iori Noguchi plays Sakura Akai, and Ami Maeshima plays Sora Konno.

The story takes place at Houtei Academy, a top private school. It is an escalator school, a type of Japanese school where students can move up from lower grades to higher ones without hard entrance exams. Hizashi Hiruno is a first-year student there. He takes his first big test of the year, and his result is terrible. The reason is simple: he made a careless mistake when filling in his answers. Because of this low score, he is sent to extra classes for students who need help.

In those classes, he meets Rei Kuromiya. She is a beautiful, popular classmate, and she is also a real idol, a singer and performer who is famous with fans. She works in an idol group called Blue Impulse with Sakura Akai and Sora Konno. Rei has a lot of pressure on her. She made a promise to her mother: if her grades fall, she must quit being an idol.

Both of them got low scores when they did not expect to, and both need to do better. So they decide to study together and help each other. As they spend time after school, Hizashi starts to see who Rei really is behind her shining public image. Slowly, feelings grow between them.

This is a school romantic comedy. It mixes study pressure, the busy life of a teenage idol, and a sweet, slowly growing love story. It should appeal to viewers who enjoy gentle romance with a secret at its center.
