Everyone's Darling Has a Secret, an idol-and-tutoring romcom, gets a TV anime in April 2027
Kashiko Amane's manga about a straight-A idol and the classmate who learns what's behind her image will air in April 2027 from studio Gekko, starring Reiji Kawashima and Hikaru Tono.
An idol who tops her class in public, and a quiet freshman who stumbles onto the truth behind that image: that is the setup of Everyone's Darling Has a Secret, and it is heading to television in April 2027.
The adaptation was revealed on September 28 through a newly opened official website and X account, which shared a teaser visual and the first four cast members. The artwork places Rei and Hizashi together in a school corridor, with cherry blossoms visible through the windows.
The cast and crew
Reiji Kawashima plays Hizashi Hiruno, the studious first-year at the center of the story, while Hikaru Tono voices Rei Kuromiya, his classmate and a member of the idol group Blue Impulse. Iori Noguchi, who performs with the real-world idol group =LOVE, joins as Sakura Akai, and Ami Maeshima rounds out the announced cast as Sora Konno.
Behind the camera, Hikaru Sato directs for studio Gekko. Fumihiko Shimo is writing the scripts and overseeing series composition, Kibidango 14-go handles character designs, and the score comes from Satoru Kosaki together with the music production group MONACA. Ryo Aizawa of Starry Cube is credited as producer.
What the story is about
Hizashi enters an elite academy under family pressure to keep his grades high, but a careless slip on his first proficiency exam lands him in remedial classes. There he finds Rei, known publicly as a genius who juggles school and stage, who has flunked too because idol work has eaten into her study time. She has promised her mother she will give up performing if her marks don't recover, so the pair agree to tutor each other, and a romance grows as Hizashi sees past her public persona.
From fan fiction to anime
Amane both writes and draws the manga. According to its Wikipedia entry, the idea started during the COVID-19 pandemic while Amane was writing fan fiction about Rin Shibuya from The Idolmaster; an editor suggested building a story around someone dating a character like Rin, and that grew into an original series. After a short preview run in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine in summer 2022, the series moved that September to Hakusensha's digital platforms. Nine volumes are out in Japan as of July 2026, with a tenth listed for October 29. Yen Press publishes the English edition and has released four volumes, the latest in June 2026.
Next up
The anime's first live appearance is already booked: Tono and Maeshima are scheduled to take the stage on November 7 at StarryCube ANIME FES 2026, an event held at Waseda University in Tokyo. An exact premiere date and broadcast channels have not been announced yet.
