About
Naruto is one of the most famous anime series ever made. It is based on a manga (a Japanese comic) by Masashi Kishimoto. The manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1999 to 2014. Studio Pierrot made the anime, and director Hayato Date led the project. The show aired on TV Tokyo in Japan from October 2002 to February 2007, with 220 episodes in total. This first series tells the story of the hero as a young boy, before he grows into a teenager.
The story takes place in a world full of ninja. Here, ninja are not just secret spies. They are trained soldiers who use chakra, a kind of inner energy, to do amazing moves called jutsu. Some jutsu let a ninja make copies of their body, breathe fire, or change their shape. The world is split into many countries, and each strong country has its own hidden ninja village. Our story mostly happens in Konoha, which is also called the Hidden Leaf Village. The strongest ninja in Konoha is the Hokage, the village chief who protects everyone.
Naruto Uzumaki is a loud, cheerful boy with spiky blond hair and a huge appetite for ramen noodles. He has no parents, and most adults in the village keep away from him. The reason is a dark secret from the day he was born. A giant fox monster with nine tails, called the Nine-Tailed Fox, once attacked Konoha. To stop it, the Fourth Hokage gave up his own life and locked the fox inside baby Naruto's body. Many villagers still fear the boy because of this. Naruto does not understand why people treat him so coldly, so he pulls pranks and acts tough to get noticed. His big dream is to become Hokage one day, so that the whole village will finally respect him.
After he graduates from the ninja academy, Naruto joins a small squad called Team 7. His teammates are Sasuke Uchiha, a quiet and gifted boy who wants revenge for the loss of his family clan, and Sakura Haruno, a smart girl who has a crush on Sasuke. Their teacher is Kakashi Hatake, a calm and often late ninja who hides most of his face behind a mask. At first the three kids argue all the time. Slowly, through hard missions, they learn to trust each other. Naruto and Sasuke also become rivals, and each one pushes the other to get stronger.
The first series follows several big story parts. The team guards a bridge builder in the Land of Waves, which is their first truly dangerous job. Later, young ninja from many villages take a hard test called the Chunin Exams, where they fight in tournament battles to earn a higher rank. Then a dangerous rogue ninja named Orochimaru starts to pull Sasuke away from his friends, and Naruto must decide how far he will go to bring his friend home. Please note that only about the first 135 episodes follow the manga. The rest are filler episodes, which means extra stories made only for the anime.
At its heart, Naruto is a coming-of-age story about a lonely child who refuses to give up. It shows how hard work, friendship, and never quitting can change the way others see you. The show mixes exciting fights with silly jokes and some very sad moments. The manga became one of the best-selling comics in history, with more than 250 million copies sold around the world, and the anime helped bring Japanese animation to many new fans across the globe.
