About
LIAR GAME 2nd Season continues the TV anime made by Madhouse from Shinobu Kaitani's thriller manga. The official website announced this new season on September 28, 2026, the same day the first season's last episode aired in Japan. The first season started on TV Tokyo in April 2026 and ran for about six months without stopping. To celebrate the news, character designer Kei Tsuchiya drew a special illustration. Crunchyroll streams the anime worldwide outside Japan and China, so fans in many countries should be able to watch the new episodes. A release date had not been shared when it was announced.
The manga first appeared in Weekly Young Jump from 2005 to 2015 and has 19 books in total. Over the years it has become a live-action drama in Japan, a drama in Korea, films, and a stage play. The 2026 anime is its first time as a TV cartoon. The first season is directed by Yuzo Sato as chief director, known for other tense gambling stories like Kaiji, with Asami Kawano as director and Tatsuhiko Urahata in charge of the scripts.
For new viewers, here is the basic idea. Nao Kanzaki is a college student who is honest almost to a fault. She is pulled into the Liar Game Tournament, a secret contest where players get a large sum of money and are told they may lie and cheat to take each other's cash. Losers end up owing massive debts. Nao gets tricked very quickly, so she asks for help from Shinichi Akiyama. He is a brilliant con man who has just left prison. He had gone after the people behind the scam that hurt his mother. Akiyama sees through lies with cool logic, while Nao keeps hoping that people can work together instead of betraying each other.
The story moves forward in rounds. Each round is a new game with its own strange rules, and every game hides a trap that only careful thinking can reveal. Players can make teams, break deals, and try to guess what others plan. Those who lose sometimes get a second chance in a revival round, but only if they pay, which pulls them deeper into debt.
This second season carries Nao, Akiyama, and the other players further into the tournament, with new games, new rivals, and bigger money on the line. Rival player Yuuji Fukunaga, a sly and loud schemer, also returns among the main cast. The mystery of who is running the Liar Game, and what they really want, keeps growing.
The mood stays the same: tense and full of mind games, with danger coming from words and choices, not fights. At its heart, the show keeps asking one simple question. In a world where lying pays, is it still worth being honest? Fans who enjoyed the puzzles and plot twists of season one can expect more of the same careful, clever style.
